To mark Socius turning four, the whole team swapped laptops for aprons and headed to Cambridge Sustainable Food for this year’s Formation Day - our annual chance to step away from the everyday and give something meaningful back.
Cambridge Sustainable Food is a brilliant organisation tackling food poverty across the city, working with local farms and redistributing good, nourishing food to families who need it most. Their “Cook & Create” programme gave us the perfect blend of teamwork, cooking and social impact.
Working with seasonal produce from Grow Cambridge Community Farm and surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste, we split into smaller teams to prepare big batches of hearty vegetable soup. Under the expert guidance of Cambridge Sustainable Food, we chopped, stirred and simmered our way through the morning, with plenty of laughter (and only a few tears, mostly onion-related).
By early afternoon, we had portioned up around 150 servings of nutritious soup, ready to be delivered to social food projects supporting families across Cambridge.
It was a simple act with a big ripple effect which is exactly what our Formation Day aims to achieve each year.
A huge thank you to Cambridge Sustainable Food for welcoming us so warmly and for the incredible work they do every day.
Here’s to another year of Socius, and to many more chances to roll up our sleeves together.
