Mill Yard – the new 180,000 sq ft mixed-use neighbourhood on Devonshire Road in Cambridge – reached a significant construction milestone as the development celebrated its topping out. The event marked the completion of the highest point of construction at the site, which is being delivered in partnership with Railpen.
Local councillors and members of the community were invited to visit the site to mark the occasion and learn more about what the development will bring to the city.
Due for completion in early 2027, Mill Yard is located five minutes’ walk from Cambridge railway station and two minutes’ walk from Mill Road. The development will comprise three office buildings – Mill Yard North, South and Central – providing 110,000 sq ft of flexible, highly sustainable workspace, alongside 70 build-to-rent apartments across two residential buildings.
The buildings will sit around a central, publicly accessible park and will include a café or bakery and a nursery with a private outdoor play area. Future workers and residents will also benefit from best-in-class cycle and end-of-journey facilities, a combined café and events space, a gym, an outdoor fitness area and a running track.
Maria Averkina, Asset and Development Manager at Railpen, said:
“By this time next year, businesses and residents will be benefiting from Cambridge’s most conveniently located, sustainable, future-ready work and living space. Railpen is committed to creating places that genuinely benefit our surrounding communities and help support Cambridge’s ambitions for significant growth. Mill Yard will be a cornerstone development in recognising these ambitions and it is really exciting to be entering into the final stages of construction for the neighbourhood.”
Socius and Railpen are also working together on Botanic Place, a 325,000 sq ft global-standard headquarters building in Cambridge, which is due for completion in Q1 2028 and will deliver high-quality workspace designed to support innovation, collaboration and the attraction of world-leading talent.
