2025 has been a big year for Socius, from construction milestones to awards, community activations to industry leadership. Here’s a look back at some of the stand-out moments that shaped our year.
Building underway in Cambridge
We kicked off the year with construction at Mill Yard, our new mixed-use neighbourhood in Cambridge, delivered in partnership with our investor Railpen, which will transform this brownfield site into vibrant homes, workspace and public space.
By late November, we celebrated another big milestone as the first topping-out of the Mill Yard residential building marked real physical progress on site.
Meanwhile, construction also commenced at Botanic Place - another key Cambridge project, also in partnership with Railpen, where high-quality, sustainable workspace is taking shape.
London Cancer Hub: Momentum & Community
The London Cancer Hub continued to be a major focus for us:
- In April, we submitted plans for the world-leading life sciences district in partnership with Aviva Capital Partners. A project designed to deliver about 1 million sq ft of research and lab space alongside amenities, jobs and community assets.
- The scheme drew praise from London’s Deputy Mayor for Business & Growth, highlighting its role in driving innovation, jobs and economic growth.
- Populate powered a series of events during LFA 2025 at the London Cancer Hub, from tours and talks to community activities, showing early activation in action.
- Populate also served up social impact in Sutton with the installation of the town’s first padel courts.
- And new life sciences businesses joined the Innovation Gateway ecosystem, expanding its role as a home for fast-growing oncology and biotech firms.
Celebrating People & Impact
2025 wasn’t just about buildings, it was about people, ideas and social value.
- Our Women in Life Sciences event brought female founders, innovators and leaders together to celebrate women’s contributions to the sector and tackle barriers to progress.
- Socius' annual Social Impact event created a genuine ripple effect, bringing industry, partners and charities together to share insights and inspire action on social value.
- We also took home Social Impact Initiative of the Year at the Estates Gazette Awards, recognising how we put people and place at the heart of what we do.
Driving Collaboration & Life Sciences leadership
Socius and Populate played host to peers and partners during London Life Sciences Week, with the Conquering Cancer Innovators Forum highlighting cross-sector collaboration to accelerate progress in oncology.
