Charity Challenge

Next month, our Director, Daniel May and Head of Engagement, Liam Ronan-Chlond will kick off the ‘Socius Cancer Charity Challenge 2024’ when they join thousands of people to take on the London Marathon. Completing the 26.2-mile course will mark the start of our exciting new challenge, which will see ‘Team Socius’ aim to raise £10,000, from now until our formation day in December, for a whole range of UK Cancer Charities.

Fundraising for The Institute of Cancer Research, Daniel and Liam have been inspired by their recent engagement with the charity, and are keen to support the amazing work it does to make new discoveries that defeat cancer to improve the lives of patients everywhere.

Commenting on his very recent commitment to take part in this year’s marathon, Daniel told us: “In a moment of madness on Friday 16th February, I agreed to run the London marathon - giving me a total of 65 days of training. I've never run more than 10km, I'm not a massive fan of running, and it's never been on my bucket list!

“My decision was shaped by walking around the Oak Cancer Centre at the Royal Marsden hospital in Sutton - a fantastic new facility for treating cancer patients. It was an awakening experience seeing people receiving chemotherapy first hand.”

Other members of the team and some of our professional partners have also committed to take part in challenges over the coming months, including March the Month for Prostate Cancer UK, Pyjamas for Pancreatic Cancer Day, the Ford Ride London-Essex, Race for Life, Stand up to Cancer Day and the Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research UK.
